Predators Acquire Sergei Kostitsyn In Exchange for Dan Ellis and Dustin Boyd
Nashville, Tenn. – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has sent goaltender Dan Ellis and forward Dustin Boyd to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Sergei Kostitsyn (SAIR-gay kaws-TIHT-sihn). All three players’ current contracts expire on Thursday, July 1.
Kostitsyn, 23 (3/20/87), posted 18 points (7g-11a) in 47 contests during his third season at the NHL level with Montreal in 2009-10. In 155 career NHL contests over the past three seasons, the 6-0, 210-pound left wing has amassed 68 points (24g-44a), in addition to 49 points (15g-34a) in 55 American Hockey League games. Kostitsyn has also suited up for the Habs in each of their last three playoff appearances, putting up eight points (3g-5a) in 18 games. A native of Novopolotsk, Belarus, Kostitsyn represented his country at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, leading the Belarusians in points with five (2g-3a) in four games. He was Montreal’s sixth selection, 200th overall (seventh round), in the 2005 Entry Draft. His brother, Andrei, has been part of the Montreal organization since being selected 10th overall in the 2003 Entry Draft. |

Sad to see Ellis go but everyone knew it was coming. Didn't get to see anything amazing from Boyd so not feeling too bad about losing him.
About Kostitsyn, I hope that we can see something decent out of him. Trotz is a coach that isn't going to take **** from anyone, and I don't think Poile would have wanted him if he thought Sergei was going to cause some real trouble. But who knows. Hopefully, he can get his **** together and play hockey, and maybe being separated from his brother will be a good thing. |

Wow, Montreal got a pretty good return for the little bitch.

yeah i'm genuinely surprised that the team didn't just get little bit of dirt from when the team started digging their new arena. I'm not saying that the two guys we got in return will turn this team into a force or anything, but after picking Price over Halak, any other goalie is a welcomed addition.
As for Andrei, i just haven't seen him put up consistent numbers, i wouldn't mind seeing him dealt to a place like Phoenix were he can be incognito and still play like a floater.

I was with the understanding that Ellis was starting golatender material, what's he doing being traded to a team that chose to stand behind their young savioir Carey Price?

Because if you are a Habs fan you hope that they get Ellis Signed tomorrow, witch drives down the contract value of Price, an maybe some team( cough cough San Jose) sends out an offer sheet that the Habs can`t match, an we get a bunch of picks for him......

I would be surprized to see the habs sign Ellis, although he says he is exited by the trade, but nonetheless, Ellis could play as number 1 in a bunch of other teams, why would he settle for being prices back up. As for Kostisn, thank god, glad to see him go and get ANYTHING in return. Now we sit back and see if he gets his head on straight and develops a work ethic. Hopefully not, don't want this looking like another lazy, nonproductive player the habs dumped recently who went on to score 27 goals with his new team.........but we got Pouliot in that trade....yay...did he even play the last bit of the season???
