Predators Acquire Forward Dustin Boyd

Nashville, Tenn. – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired forward Dustin Boyd from the Calgary Flames in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Boyd, 23 (7/16/86), has posted 19 points (8g-11a), 15 penalty minutes and a plus-5 rating while averaging 12:14 per game in 60 games for the Flames this season, his second full NHL campaign. Selected 98th overall (third round) by the Flames in the 2004 Entry Draft, Boyd has 57 points (28g-29a) and 35 penalty minutes in 192 career games since the start of the 2006-07 campaign.

The 6-0, 187-pound center and Winnipeg, Man., native was a member of the 2006 Canadian World Junior Championships squad that claimed a gold medal.

Interesting. 3 or 4 years ago the Flames had high hopes for Boyd, before Backlund was drafted he was their top prospect. Now the Flames give up on another one of their younger players and dish him off like they did in the past with Phaneuf, Kobasew, Lombardi, Reinprecht, Prust and Ference.

I'm not saying Boyd is anything special, but I'll be interested to see if he can make a name for himself in Nashville and jumpstart his NHL career.

They had to get rid of some of the 15 forwards they have right now, and I'm just glad they didn't take back salary.

My question is, are the Flames a better team than they were in 6 weeks? I don't think they are and I HATE that fuking Kotalik contract for 2 more years!

Thats the big question, isn't it? And in another 2 years from now, how will the Flames look? This team is headed towards a major collapse in a few more seasons, imo.

But aren't you getting tired of the Flames constantly trading away youthful players like this? They're way too quick to give up on some of these young guys - Boyd's just another example in a long list of players Sutter had lost patience with, and one day it will come to bite him, and when he's fired, these will be the kinds of trades people will be pointing out.

Not sure why Nashville did this unless they don't see O'Reilly getting any better.

I have to agree 100% and it breaks my heart, as I have been a Flames fan a lot longer than I have a Wild fan. They went from a serious playoff contended to an absolute afterthought in just a few swift moves. Sather has them in fire-sale mode, and I really don't think there was a need to rebuild, they had a pretty decent core and were only missing a few key pieces. Iggy is not getting any younger, and I have to believe that his chances of winning the Cup with the Flames is disappearing fast. If I were Iggy I would be quite upset, as it doesn't seem like the front office is doing anything to win. They really need to bounce that GM before he does anymore real damage (like DR did to the Wild, destroying them from the inside out).

As both a Wild fan and Flames fan, I really hope they do something to get their sh!t together real soon.
