Pittsburgh Penguins Sign Forward Jarkko Ruutu
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Jarkko Ruutu, it was announced Tuesday by General Manager Ray Shero.
Ruutu, 30, appeared in all 82 games during the 2005-06 season with the Vancouver Canucks, recording 17 points (10+7) and 142 penalty minutes. Ruutu established new career highs in games played, goals, points and penalty minutes. Additionally, Ruutu won a silver medal with Finland at the 2006 Winter Olympics. The 6-0 and 200-pound native of Helsinki, Finland has appeared in 267 career NHL games, all with Vancouver, recording 51 points (23+28) and 453 penalty minutes. As for Sean Brown, he is a UFA too, but he has a better chance than BB of being signed in Vancouver. I think that Erskine may be the best option for us, but I'd really settle for anyone. Considering the massive holes we have on forward, I sure wouldn't be opposed to one of them being held by an enforcer.
