Pittsburgh Acquires Bill Guerin

The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired right wing Bill Guerin from the New York Islanders in exchange for a conditional draft pick, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Guerin, 38, has scored 403 goals and 799 points in 1,168 career NHL games over 17 seasons with New Jersey, Edmonton, Boston, Dallas, St. Louis, San Jose and the Islanders. He also has accumulated 1,567 penalty minutes

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound native of Worcester, MA scored a career-high 41 goals with Boston in 2001-02 and has scored at least 30 goals five times in his career. He netted 36 goals two years ago, in 2006-07, with St. Louis and San Jose. This season, with the Islanders, he recorded 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points in 61 games.

Guerin won a Stanley Cup with New Jersey in 1994-95. He has played in 105 career Stanley Cup playoff games, recording 28 goals, 50 points and 145 penalty minutes.

Guerin was acquired for a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. If the Penguins make the playoffs, it will be a fourth-round pick. If the Penguins win a playoff round and Guerin plays in 50 percent of the games, it will be a third-round pick.

Guerin was the New Jersey Devils’ first-round pick, fifth overall, in the 1989 draft and played two seasons at Boston College before turning pro. He is a veteran of international competition for Team USA, having played in the 1998, 2002 and 2006 Olympics and the 1996 and 2004 World Cups.

No word as to who yet Habs. Craig Adams and Guerin, both are tough forwards.

Guerin also wasnt playing with Crosby, he'll produce and add a little toughness too.

Geez, Guerin's bounced around a lot in his career.

Good pick up for the Pens - together with the move for Kunitz earlier last week, I think they've done a lot to improve this club. Perhaps they moved another d-man for him?

Gave up a conditional 3rd, 4th, or 5th. I like it then. Actually, I love it. No risk whatsoever.

what the hell? why is Guerin's value so low? 5th round pick, 4th if they make playoffs, 3rd if they win 1 round.... so at best a 3rd round pick?
