Penguins Sign Luca Caputi

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Luca Caputi to a three-year entry-level contract, it was announced Wednesday by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Caputi was selected by the Penguins in the fourth round (111th overall) in the 2007 NHL Draft. He spent this season with Niagara of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and recorded 111 points (51 goals, 60 assists) in 66 games played to rank fourth in league scoring. Caputi ranked third overall in the OHL with 51 goals. He also played 10 playoff games scoring 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) before his club was eliminated in the second round of the OHL playoffs. Caputi registered a hat trick plus added an assist during Game Five in the series vs. Oshawa on April 11th.

Caputi was selected to the Eastern Conference team at the OHL All-Star Classic and recorded one assist in the contest. He has played four seasons in the OHL scoring 185 points (86 goals, 99 assists) in 214 games.

They both have a lot of work to do. Ryan Stone had the same kind of stats both of those guys had and he's yet to come close to anything resembling a scoring line forward in the NHL.

Zabotel needs to learn how to throw a body check first.

If I'm not wrong Luca Caputi is from switzerland...be prepared to see another swiss miss in training camp. They lack the drive and grittiness to make it in the NHL and they can make decent money at home playing half the games. The only one that made it is Streit.

True but they both are still very young and with a bump up in competition that should help progress them. I hope they are invited to camp at least it would be another positive step for both of them.

he's listed as being from Toronto, and he speaks pretty good english in interviews so I doubt he's swiss, and David Aebischer is Swiss

Streit played on the Swiss national team in the 2006 Olympics and was born in Englisberg, Switzerland. Perhaps raised in Toronto, but the guy is Swiss.

Martin Gerber is Swiss isn't he?

Anywho... cool, go Caputi. Heard his name plenty, but don't know much about him. Is he big, small, fast, slow...?

Doesn't look very big in that vid, but he most-certainly kicked that guy's ass.

Gerber is Swiss. Im gonna find a video for you of Caputi. Much of the Pens brass feel he could be up here within 2 years. Looks like the real deal to me.

There ya go Faz

Clearly, any move made by the Pen's is exactly the right move at exactly the right time.

Just ask any Pen's fan.
