PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed right wing Andre Roy, it was announced today by Penguins General Manager Craig Patrick.

Roy, 30, played in 33 games for the Tampa Bay Lightning during the 2003-04 season, tallying two points (1+1) and 78 penalty minutes. In 21 playoff games that same season, he recorded three points (1+2) and 61 penalty minutes while helping the Lightning win its first Stanley Cup Championship in team history.

The 6-4, 221-pound Roy has played in 310 career games in the National Hockey League for the Lightning and Ottawa Senators, recording 52 points (25+27) and 734 penalty minutes. He set career highs in goals (10) and points (17) during the 2002-03 season while playing for Tampa Bay.

I was just about to post this, sounds like it's true though. I agree that they still need another heavyweight, but if they do get a legitimate heavy, Vandenbussche and Roy are pretty good backup. Crosby will be well protected.

If I were a Pens fan I'd rather have Roy than Domi at this point...

Roy should fit in nicely.

What about their rugged d-man Dan Focht, will they keep him?
Steve Webb & Reid Simpson...are they gone for sure?

I'd rather have Domi but I bet Roy is cheaper and they could need some money to try to sign a good defensive d-man.

Andre Roy would be more fun to watch than Domi, especially if he loses his cool. And I think he can get the job done, sure he won't win all the fights, but he does a good job of patroling the ice.

I agree. I actually hope this is true, Roy is fun. Not the best fighter for sure, but def fun.

Roy more fun than Domi? Roy does snap occasionally, but cmon...even an older Domi has sucker punched Magnus Arvedson, Jumped Shaun Van Allen, thrown an autographed stick to Shelley....he is by far way more entertaining than Roy....and besides he is like 5'8 and looks way more funny!

On rds.ca they are reporting that Roy has signed there.

True. True. I forgot about some of those incidents. Regardless, either would be cool.
To be honest tho, I don't want to see Domi leave the Leafs.

From a management side, Domi is probably not what the Leafs need. However, Seeing a Flyers vs Leafs game with Brash and Domi in the line-up always makes for a fun time and a 19 page thread on the site about who REALLY won the fight. And the battle of Ontario won't be the same without Domi either. Everytime him and Neil play there is a garenteed 10 page thread on who turned down who more times.

My heart wants him back, my brain is telling me to let him go!

I guess you missed the time when Roy challeneged the entire Rangers roster? Or when he mocked Domi by wearing the clown nose?

I'd rather have someone like Steve McLaren, who doesn't get a shot full time. Domi is in the twilight of his career, and Roy couldn't whip McLaren on his best day.

Too bad i'm not a GM.

after decoding that, i'll try and form a response.

"he can only fight"

-Must be bad to have an Enforcer who can actually "fight".
Roy tries to fight I admit.
Which was the point. But I'd rather have a BETTER "fighter".

"Domi could **** kick him and put up some points

-What version of Domi are speaking of? The latest actualy wore a visor. He farts dust, his career as an Enforcer is over. I've been studying hockeyfights much longer than your 12 years of life, trust me on this.

"in love roy"

-my blessing to you

"hes an intimidating guy and he wont be scared to go after anyone, he will have a bunch of tilts this year"

-I take it you have no clue of what kind of caliber of fighter Steve Mclaren is. Because again, he'll do those things, only win a hell of a lot more bouts than Roy will.
