Penguins Sign Eric Godard to Three-Year Deal

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Eric Godard to a three-year contract, it was announced Tuesday by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Godard, 28, spent the 2007-08 season with the Calgary Flames, recording two points (one goal, one assist) and 171 penalty minutes. The 6-4, 214-pound native of Vernon, British Columbia has played 200 NHL games registering eight points (three goals, five assists) and 481 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in seven playoff games recording one assist.

Godard made his NHL debut with the New York Islanders during the 2002-03 season. The undrafted free agent for Florida was acquired by the Islanders prior to that season. After three seasons with the Islanders, he was signed by Calgary as a free agent on August 10th, 2006.

Nice to see an exciting, elite fighter coming east. Perfect compensation for the BGL loss also.

Godard back to the East!

Yes! Great signing by Pittsburgh! I guess Laraque is headed elsewhere (maybe Nashville), so good for them to replace him with Godard! Pittsburgh was losing some grit so I'm glad they signed a heavyweight.

Now the Flames need to find a replacement for him, or will they just go with Vandy and Prust?

Should be interesting. A lot of enforcers should be on the move.

Free Agency sure is an exciting day...

Does this totally eliminate BGL as a option for the Penguins?

Another surprising move. Now, Pens fans don't have to worry about not having a top tier HW.

I'm happy many of these UFA enforcers are finding teams. It's a positive sign.

Man I was really looking forward to the McGrattan/Godard rivalry picking up again. At least the Pens now have an exciting fighter who knows his role and is a damn good fighter! Good signing.

Great signing, Godard is one of my favorite fighters. A Godard-Orr/Cote rivalry should be good.

Damn! I wanted Godard to come to New Jersey.

Oh well, good pick up by the Pens.
