Penguins Sign Defenseman Mike Weaver
The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Mike Weaver to a one-year, two-way contract, it was announced Tuesday by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.
Weaver, 29, spent the 2006-07 season with the Los Angeles Kings scoring nine points (three goals, six assists) in 39 games played. He scored his first NHL goal on Feb. 6 vs. Tampa Bay. Weaver also spent the 2005-06 season with Los Angeles recording nine points (nine assists) in 53 games. Previously, he played parts of three seasons with the Atlanta Thrashers registering a total of six points (six assists) in 57 games. Weaver has played a total of 323 games combined over six seasons between the AHL and IHL compiling 66 points (nine goals, 57 assists) and a plus-71 rating. He ranked first among AHL defensemen and third overall during the 2004-05 season with a plus-35 rating. Prior to beginning his professional career in 2000, Weaver played four seasons at Michigan State University. He was twice named to the CCHA First All-Star Team (1999, 2000) and winner of the CCHA Best Defensive Defenseman Award (1999, 2000). Weaver was also named to the NCAA West All-American Second Team in both 1999 and 2000. |
