Penguins Recall Letang, Reassign Nasreddine and Kennedy

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Kris Letang from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL and have re-assigned forward Tyler Kennedy and defenseman Alain Nasreddine to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, it was announced Tuesday by Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.

Letang has played 10 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season ranking third on the club with seven points (one goal, six assists) and leading the team in assists. He played seven games in Pittsburgh during the 2006-07 season scoring two goals before being returned to his junior club in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

This year, Letang played four preseason games for the Penguins before being assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at the end of training camp. He was originally selected by the Penguins in the third round (62nd overall) in the 2005 Entry Draft.

Kennedy played his first six NHL games after being recalled by the Penguins on Oct. 27. He scored his first NHL goal on Nov. 3 in a game vs. the New York Islanders. The goal came in his third game with the Penguins and was scored on his first NHL shot. Kennedy played six games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton before his time in Pittsburgh and recorded five points (three goals, two assists), including two game-winning goals. He was originally selected by the Penguins in the fourth round (99th overall) in the 2004 Entry Draft.

Nasreddine has played four games for the Penguins this season. He appeared in 44 games for the club during the 2006-07 season, collecting five points (one goal, four assists) and ranking second on the team with a plus-12 rating. Nasreddine has until noon on Wednesday to clear waivers, at which time he will be assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

I thought Letang was going to make the team out of camp, but I guess he had a poor camp. It'll be interesting to see how long he sticks around at the NHL level.

I cant imagine how many goals this team is going to give up with, Gonchar, Whitney, and Letang all in.

As long as they score more it's all good, right?

Letang might score as many as he lets go by him into the net. Should change to wing. He can carry the puck as well as anyone. Has all the tools except maturity. Gets burned on occasions pressing in on offense when he should back up on defense. Can skate and pass well. Just needs more time on the ice. Hope he gets it. He could be a great player with a little time.;)

He did have a poor camp, after everyone including me had him penciled in as the #6 defenseman over the summer. He's obviously very good offensively, can move the puck and gives the team a much-needed right-handed shot on the blue line, but he is a liability defensively. Which, of course, is exactly what we need :duh:

I'm more upset that the brass thinks Rob Scuderi will develop into anything resembling a solid NHL defenseman. I'd rather have Nasreddine.
