Well, at least a heavyweight makes it back into a lineup this season.

Gotta love how punchy the Pens are this year.
With the young stars cruising around, it's good to know Cairns, Roy, Orpik, Petrovicky, Thorburn and Ruutu can all start/finish sh!t. In fact, I'd go as far as to say the Pens are the about most likely team in the league to have a 5-on-5 out-of-control brawl. I can just imagine someone cheap-shotting Crosby or Malkin in a corner, Therrien immediately gets Cairns and Roy to jump onto the ice and POUND THE FRICKEN HELL out of whoever did it regardless. Even if Cairns holds 'em and Roy hits 'em. Suspensions? Who cares! Nobody takes liberties with our little skill boys! Ace. |

Kind of hard for him to play this season when he'd been on IR until what, Saturday?

Cairns needs to get in the game and get the rust dusted off. I don't think he's fought this year, regular or pre-season. He also didn't fight in either of his two games this weekend in Wilkes Barre. Someone on the AHL board said Cairns skating was slow and horrible. I really would like to see him make a come back in the NHL but his time to do that is rapidly wasting.

The Pens are already running low on rosters spaces for defenders (PLUS Orpik to come back), so Cairns will play very few games, I think.
I suspect he'll end the season having played half a dozen games, but one could almost bet they'll be filled with 2, 5, 10 packages, as he leaps onto the ice in retaliation for something, instigates, fights and gets the misconduct. If he sticks with Pens and shows he's capable of playing SOME ice time and that he can still fight with the best, he might get more of a go next year when (I think) the handcuffing one-way deals a few dud Penguin defenders have will lapse. |
