Penguins Recall Beau Bennett

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Beau Bennett from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Bennett, 21, will be looking to make his NHL debut on Friday night at Winnipeg. The rookie forward placed second on WBS with 18 assists and fourth with 25 points in 35 games this season. Last month, he was chosen to represent the Penguins at the AHL All-Star Classic, although he didn’t play in the game due to injury.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound forward attended NHL training camp with the Penguins in January, but was returned to WBS just prior to the start of the season.

Bennett, who became the highest-drafted California-born player when the Penguins made him the 20th-overall selection in the first round of the 2010 NHL Draft, played two seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of Denver from 2010-12, tallying 13 goals, 25 assists and 38 points in 47 games. Last season, Bennett was averaging better than a point per game for Denver before he was sidelined due to injury.

Bennett, who is a native of Gardena, California, tied for the league lead in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) with 120 points (41G-79A) in 56 games with the Penticton Vees during the 2009-10 season.

Solid move by Ray Shero, I'm excited to see what this kid can do with an elite centre like Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin.

Now waive Tyler Kennedy or Craig Adams.

I think he's a better option than Zach Boychuk, but he's soft physically and his skating isn't the greatest. His playmaking/sniping skills are amazing, he has a quick/accurate release in his shot. He reminds me of a smaller version of Dany Heatley.

Hate the call up, and another example of the Pens ruining their talent pool. He is going to be outmatched physically over and over again. His confidence will plummet and he will become Tangradi part 2.

He should be down in the AHL for this season. In a related note it sounds like TK is on his way out with his current play.

What ya hearing about Kennedy TPK?????Speaking of him.Did you notice that slapshot he took from the right boards that was aimed at the opposite faceoff circle??He's been bad this year....

I also tend to agree with you on Bennett after thinking about it...I hope he doesn't lose confidence if things don't go well with him right off the bat...

Big mistake. They are going to ruin this kid by bring him up this soon, after not even having a full AHL season. Yeah, he has an elite skill set, but he simply is not ready for the big time yet. You think any of the bandwagon Pens fans are going to understand if he doesn't produce right away? Not only that, you can't ignore his recent injury history, both in college and WBS. Cooke actually looked decent playing with Malkin and Neal last night - they could put him there and drop Boychuk to the 3rd line.

Apparently TK is on the shopping block. He is in not only Bylsma's doghouse, but Shero's as well. His comments last night paint that picture very well.

I think the Pens will be one of the biggest players on deadline day. They are gearing up for what appears to be a few moves.
