Penguins Re-Sign Ryan Lannon

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Ryan Lannon to a one-year contract, it was announced Friday by Assistant General Manager Chuck Fletcher.

Lannon, 24, played 68 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL) during the 2006-07 season, posting 19 points (19 assists) and 71 penalty minutes. He has played 142 career games in the AHL with the Penguins, registering 29 points (two goals, 27 assists) and 136 penalty minutes. Lannon recorded two points in 22 playoff appearances with the Penguins.

The 6-2, 220-pound native of Grafton, Massachusetts, played four years at Harvard before making his professional debut in 2005. He tallied 38 points (four goals, 34 assists) and 147 penalty minutes, finishing plus-66 in 136 games with the Crimson.

In 2004, Lannon earned All-Ivy Second Team honors and was named the “Unsung Hero” in college hockey by US College Hockey Online. He was drafted by Pittsburgh in the eighth round (239th overall) of the 2002 Entry Draft.

Last year he was probably the slowest defenseman at training camp. A pilon with skates on.

Then there was the game with the Flyers in 1972, where he was taunted by the team's trainer. Durbano responded as only he could. He took his stick and speared the trainer in the mouth.
