Penguins Re-Sign Forward Ryan Malone

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Ryan Malone, it was announced today by General Manager Craig Patrick.

Malone, 25, a Pittsburgh native, was an NHL All-Rookie Team selection in 2003-04, scoring 22 goals and recording 43 points in 81 games for the Penguins. Malone ranked fourth among NHL rookies in scoring, ranked fourth in goals and tied for fifth in assists (21) during the 2003-04 season and became the first NHL rookie to score three overtime goals in a single season. Malone led the Penguins in goals, ranked third in scoring and tied for third in assists.

Malone became the first Penguins’ rookie to score 20 goals in a season since the 1992-93 season (Shawn McEachern – 28 goals) and was named to the Eastern Conference’s Young Stars roster during All-Star weekend.

The 6-4 and 216 pound forward was drafted by the Penguins in the fourth round (115th overall) of the 1999 Entry Draft.

Solid addition to an already Solid O-ffensive team. Look Out Eastern Division.

yeah Malone's twenty something percent face off winning percentage will be a great solution to the center position.

Always looking at the negatives! So what he can't win a face off ... he's still the next best option to put there.

Besides, face offs are overrated.

Don't get me wrong ... I think he's great and he's only gonna get better. That said, he's not the best face off guy. I wouldn't say I was knocking him as much as I was having a little fun with the previous post. I'm glad he's locked up for this year and I hope he gets a long-term deal in the future.

He's never been impressive playing center. I'll be much happier knowing he's playing on either wing.

wing, center, defense, as long as this kid is on the ice, be f*cking happy. great young kid with all the potential in the world and you're b*tching about him not being that good of a faceoff centerman? i guess if the pens dont sweep someone in every playoff series and sweep the cup finals its a failure huh?

I think this is the first time I've read or heard negative comments in regards to Malone...the kid has ****loads of potential and doesn't get much recognition...
