Penguins Re-Sign Defenseman Micki Dupont

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed defenseman Micki DuPont, it was announced Thursday by General Manager Ray Shero. DuPont had been a group II free agent.

DuPont, 26, has totaled 32 goals and 97 points in 148 games over the last three seasons with Berlin of the German League, leading all team defensemen in scoring in each of the last three seasons. Additionally, DuPont represented Canada at the 2006 World Championships in Latvia, recording one assist in nine games.

DuPont was acquired by the Penguins from Calgary on March 11, 2003 with Mathias Johansson in exchange for Shean Donovan and was assigned to the Penguins’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, where he finished the 2002-03 season.

In 14 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2002-03, DuPont recorded five points (1+4) and 16 penalty minutes. DuPont scored three goals in six playoff games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. In 44 games with Saint John (AHL) during 2002-03, DuPont recorded 33 points (12+21) and 73 penalty minutes.

The 5-10 and 186 pound native of Calgary signed with Berlin prior to the 2003-04 season and has played there for three seasons.

DuPont was originally drafted by Calgary in the ninth round (270th overall) of the 2000 Entry Draft. He has played in 18 NHL games, all with the Flames, recording three points (1+2) and six penalty minutes.
