Penguins Re-Sign Colby Armstrong

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Colby Armstrong to a two-year contract, it was announced Thursday by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

“Colby is another young guy who plays with passion, gives us versatility up front and brings an added physical dimension to our team,” Shero said. “We are confident he’ll continue to grow as a player and benefit from experiences like having played for Team Canada at the World Championships.”

Armstrong, 24, registered 34 points (12 goals, 22 assists) and recorded 67 penalty minutes in 80 games last season. He tied the Penguins record with three overtime goals in 2006-07 and scored each of his 12 goals when the game was tied or the Penguins were trailing.

The 6-2, 190-pound native of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, made his NHL debut with the Penguins in 2005-06. Armstrong has recorded 74 points (28 goals, 46 assists) in 127 NHL games. He was drafted by the Penguins in the first round (21st overall) of the 2001 Entry Draft.

Armstrong helped Team Canada capture a gold medal at the IIHF World Championship tournament in Moscow this past May. He registered one goal, which was the tournament-winning goal to defeat Finland, 4-2, to capture the medal.

Good move by the Pens.

Armstrong is a fan favorite there in Pittsburgh. He's young, he's got some speed, and he's a tough hockey player that can dish out some of the best hits in the league. He fits in well with their offense, so the Pens are a good fit for him. Glad to hear this news.

Uh-huh....

And then Laraque turn down McGrattan over and over (again).

Face it, Colby has a piper or two to pay for his reckless hits of last season.
He is fair game and will be a target.

I don't see anything happening in the retaliation department. Not that I wouldn't like to see the sh*t get stirred up. Army called and apologized to Eaves. Just like he did to Trevor Letowski, from a similar hit earlier in the year and nothing happened. We'll see. Maybe the Canes were just waiting for this year for revenge. Oh sh*t, Army is getting all his payback this year.

If any team should seek retaliation, it would Philly. He's laid out so many Flyers with that hit.

I must have been in the bathroom when that happened. What I do remember is Chrissy Neil turning white as a ghost when Laraque lined up next to him at the faceoff near the end of the game. You know what I'm talking about.

He was soooo scared .

Come on man. No one in their right mind would deny that Laraque beats Neil much more often than not. But if you truly think Neil turned "white as a ghost" or that he was scared, you have some sort of crazy pro Laraque and/or anti-Neil bias you need to revisit.
