Penguins Re-Sign Colby Armstrong

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Colby Armstrong to a one-year deal, it was announced today by General Manager Ray Shero.

Armstrong, 23, was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on December 29 and made his NHL debut that night against the New Jersey Devils. He appeared in 47 games with the Penguins during the 2005-06 season, recording 40 points (16+24) and 58 penalty minutes and led the team with a plus-15 rating. His plus-15 rating ranked fourth among all NHL rookies. He also appeared in 31 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to begin the season, tallying 29 points (11+18) and 44 penalty minutes.

The 6-2 and 195 pound forward has appeared in 251 career games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, recording 129 points (46+83) and 280 penalty minutes. He ranks seventh on Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s all-time games played list (251), seventh in assists (83), tenth in points (129) and is tied for 11th in goals scored (46).

Armstrong, a native of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, was drafted by the Penguins in the first round (21st overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

After what he showed he's capable of last year, this was a no-brainer.

Good signing could become a force if allowed to play on a line with Crosby and Malkin. Malkin is amazing.

I'd say "force" is a little bit strong, but he's already proven he can excel with top-calibre linemates. If Pittsburgh continues to get deeper on offense, he'll still put up very good numbers.

This guy is such a pain in the *ss, me being a Phantoms fan, he really got on my nerves when he was with WBS and beyond the pest factor I think he could pot 20-30 a season (if on theright line) so...good deal for the Pens.

You definatley dont hear very much about him, cause hes overshadowed by Crosby. But he had an excellent rookie season. The penguins have the best young talent out there.

good move by the penguins. he's fairly young and i think that if he plays a whole season, he could get 30 goals.
