Penguins' James Neal Fined $2,500

NEW YORK – Pittsburgh Penguins forward James Neal has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for high-sticking Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban in NHL Game No. 331 Saturday night in Montreal, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 7:10 of the third period. A minor penalty for high-sticking was assessed on the play.

The fine money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

That can't be it, can it? I saw that replay in the highlights from the game and Subban clear as day slewfooted him. Not a particularly bad slewfoot, but definitely present. And yet Neal ends up getting fined for the play? That's beyond insanity. Good thing the NHL fine structure means he just loses pocket change.

Come on! After the whistle, twice Subban tackled someone, then slew foots Neal later on, and Neal is punished??? I'm playing the race card here haha

ARCTICCAT24 11-29-2011 01:22 PM

So you now get fined for high sticking? This league is fuking up big time.

Pretty soon it will cost you $1000 for each glove you drop.

Then later on in the game, Neal is in a scrum and Punk Kid tackles him from behind and almost tears up Neal's knee.
