Awesome news! Engelland has definitely earned that extension. He's been better than I expected, and not just with the gloves off. And the price is definitely right - I agree that he could have gotten more on the open market. This does probably spell the end of Godard here, which would suck, but if they can re-sign Rupp and Asham, it won't be too bad.

Deryk has paid his dues, stuck with it, and finally made it to the big show.

League and games played.

Total NHL 41
Total AHL 338
Total ECHL 148
Total WHL 243

Great news for DE. I hope he continues to play like a man fighting (literally) for a job in NHL though, as that's partly what's given him an edge and made him so exciting to watch so far this season. I don't see Shero resigning Godard if DE is tied up for three years. Not with the likes of Rupp around too. So I wonder which teams will be interested in Godard if that's the case? Shame as he lit up the 08-09 season and won the cup with the Pens. But that was then and this is now...

Engelland is certainly no Bobby Orr; as far as stats go he is fairly average for a defensive defenseman.

Other teams that lack in the toughness can learn from the pens. You can have the scoring and the fighting etc.

Careful Skorks, he's just trying to start another discussion about why he thinks Deryk Engelland is overrated (aka butthurt because he whooped Orr, Colton that is, twice).
