Penguins Acquire Nolan Schaefer From San Jose

Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero announced today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired goaltender Nolan Schaefer from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a seventh round selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Schaefer will be assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Schaefer, 27, appeared in seven NHL games in the 2005-06 season with the Sharks posting a 5-1-0 record, a 1.88 goals against average, and a .920 save percentage.

The 6-2, 200 lbs native of Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan was originally a fifth-round pick (166th overall) of the San Jose Sharks in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

He didn't do too bad in his limited NHL duty. Not a bad pick-up. Won't make any immediate impact for the team though. Fleury's still gotta get hot for them to make a lot of noise this playoffs.

Don't expect him to put up numbers like he did in the 10 or so games he got in the NHL last year. We had too many goalies in the system anyway, and now that paves the way for Greiss, followed by Dakers and Stalock.

glad he's getting his chance somewhere else, Thibault is likely done in Pitt after the season.

That's true, but the Sharks should have gotten more than a 7th round pick. That's not a very good pick.
