Penguins Acquire Hossa, Dupuis from Atlanta
 
The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired right wings Marian Hossa and Pascal Dupuis from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for forwards Colby Armstrong, Erik Christensen, Angelo Esposito, and a first-round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Hossa, 29, is in his 10th NHL season and has recorded 56 points (26 goals, 30 assists) in 60 games with Atlanta this season. He has compiled 638 points (296 goals, 342 assists) in 689 career games. Hossa has registered 169 multi-point games during his NHL career. He entered this season with six straight seasons scoring 30-or-more goals. Hossa registered a career high 100 points (43 goals, 57 assists) playing in all 82 games in 2006-07. He has been selected to play in the NHL All-Star Game five times (2001, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008) and was named to the NHL All-Rookie team following the 1989-99 season. Hossa has also played in 55 playoff games posting 35 points (13 goals, 22 assists).

Hossa was originally selected by the Ottawa Senators in the first round (12th overall) of the 1997 Entry Draft, which took place in Pittsburgh.

Dupuis, 28, is in his seventh NHL season and has registered 15 points (10 goals, five assists) in 62 games for Atlanta this season. He has totaled 162 points (81 goals, 81 assists) in 419 career games split between Atlanta, Minnesota, and the New York Rangers. Dupuis has also participated in 20 playoff games scoring 11 points (five goals, six assists).

Dupuis was originally signed as by the Minnesota Wild as an undrafted free agent on September 18th, 2000. He was acquired by the New York Rangers on February 9th, 2007 in a trade that sent current Penguin Adam Hall to Minnesota.

Armstrong was originally selected by the Penguins in the first round (21st overall) of the 2001 Entry Draft. He has scored 98 points (37 goals, 61 assists) in 181 career games with the Penguins.

Christensen was originally selected by the Penguins in the third round (69th overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft. He has totaled 66 points (33 goals, 33 assists) in 143 games with the Penguins.

Esposito was selected by the Penguins in the first round (20th overall) in the 2007 Entry Draft. He currently has 55 points (26 goals, 29 assists) in 48 games for the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Surprised to see Crosby's buddy Armstrong traded. I can't see Esposito being a star, but he might be an NHL'er.

That's a steep price for a guy that's going to be a UFA after this season. Esposito was their top prospect.

they just gave up some really young talent for someone with a huge price ticket

I think this is a bad deal for Pittsburgh, they gave up too much for a probable rental player. Pittsburgh already has enough offense and this was unneeded to me. However I am happy Hossa didn't go to the Habs :)
