Penguins Acquire Harry Zolnierczyk from Ducks for Alex Grant

The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired forward Harry Zolnierczyk from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Alex Grant, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Zolnierczyk, 25, split the 2012-13 campaign between the Anaheim and Philadelphia Flyers organizations. He played in seven NHL games with the Flyers, recording one assist and 36 penalty minutes.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Zolnierczyk spent a majority of the ’12-13 season in the American Hockey League with the Adirondack Phantoms and Norfolk Admirals, collecting 11 goals and 19 points with 68 penalty minutes in 61 games between the two teams.

A native of Toronto, Ontario, Zolnierczyk has recorded seven points (3G-4A) and 71 penalty minutes in 44 career NHL games with Philadelphia. He scored a goal in NHL debut against Craig Anderson and the Ottawa Senators on Oct. 18, 2011. Zolnierczyk has appeared in 116 career AHL regular-season games with Adirondack and Norfolk, totaling 22 goals, 23 assists and 45 points with 142 penalty minutes.

Originally signed by Philadelphia as an undrafted free agent on March 8, 2011, Zolnierczyk played four years of collegiate hockey at Brown University of the ECAC from 2007-11. Zolnierczyk appeared in 114 career games at Brown, registering 30 goals, 39 assists and 69 points. His best season came as a senior in ’10-11 when he was named Ivy League Player of the Year while serving as team captain. Zolnierczyk was named to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team in 2009.

Harry Z is a POS, on and off the ice. Not a good trade at all. Hopefully he does not get signed.

WBS needs a bigger checking forward, not another under-sized pest.

That blows. Maybe they'll trade Engelland for Zuccarello.

Grant is the real deal. I was impressed with him last season.
Scored a lot of points in the AHL and did well when he fought..

I liked Alex Grant. He was a pretty good puck-moving defenseman, he has great slap-shot. He has the potential to be a bottom-pairing defenseman, if he improves defensively.

Players like this take the 4th line spot of actual tough guys. Someone like Glass will sit in favor of this suck bag.

Glass sucks, too. I don't see Harry Z having any sort of impact at all. Hopefully he either doesn't get signed or just gets buried in WBS.

Apparently Grant wanted out, so the Pens accommodated him. But Harry Z? Didn't we already have "Harry Z" on this team in Craig Adams? A bag of pucks would have been a better trade.

you're right he does too, but Glass is better then Harry Z. Ideally they get themselves a legit 4th line banger.

Well Grant has been through a lot and a lot like Carl Sneep he was going nowhere in this system or with the Pens. I like Harry Z on the bottom line because honestly that was what killed this team in the ECF. At least Harry Z will be willing to go to the net and is a decent enough skater.

Adams-Vitale-Harry Z/Glass

I'd be ok with that. Maybe even Sill makes his way up.

I doubt that Harry Z gets a roster spot (if he is signed). He will play the majority of the season in WBS.

Harry Z is too small to make a strong presence in-front of the net.
