Panthers Sign J.F. Jacques

SUNRISE – Florida Panthers Executive VP & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms with LW Jean-Francois Jacques on a one-year, two-way contract.

“Jacques is a big and physical player with NHL experience that we are happy to have signed,” said Tallon. “He is a hard working and tough to play against forward that adds further depth to our club.”

Jacques, 27, has played in 166 National Hockey League games for Edmonton (2005-2011) and Anaheim (2011-12) registering 17 points (9-8-17) and 197 PIM. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound forward played in six scoreless games for the Ducks last season, while also appearing in 65 contests for Syracuse (American Hockey League) scoring 21 goals with 19 assists.

The Montreal, PQ native has played in 215 AHL games scoring 68 goals with 75 assists and 375 PIM. Jacques was originally drafted by Edmonton in the second round (68th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Wished he would play here. Local natives normally are fan favorites.

But this is a 2 way deal. He'll play more games in the A.

But he's not a super heavyweight enforcer.

Nope but he better backup 4th liner than Engqvist, Palushaj and Nokelainen.

I agree. According to the stats, it appears he doesn't fight to much.

He'll fight quite a bit. He had 11 fights last year and has 28 in his past 3 season so it's a good addition of a little more toughness. There's just not really a roster spot for him come the start of the season, but I'm sure we'll see him up with the Panthers periodically.

Decent 4th liner, would take him over a soft Euro any day. He does ok is the fighting department and is a good #2 or 3 guy.

He can check like a bat out of hell. Decent fighter, pretty much a lesser Winchester.
