Panthers Claim Garth Murray Off Re-Entry Waivers
SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers General Manager and Head Coach Jacques Martin announced today that the club has claimed C Garth Murray off re-entry waivers from the Montreal Canadiens.
Murray, 25, has played in 100 career NHL games with the New York Rangers (2003-04) and the Montreal Canadiens (2005-07) registering 10 points (2-8-10), while recording 100 penalty minutes. The Regina, Saskatchewan native was a member of Team Canada that won the Silver Medal at the 2002 World Junior Championships. "Garth is a quality, character guy who competes hard every shift," Martin said. "He is the type of player that will bring a competitive attitude and grit to our lineup every night." Last season, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound center played in 43 games for the Canadiens with two goals, one assist and 32 penalty minutes. He played in one game this season for Montreal against the Panthers on Oct. 16. Murray was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the third round (79th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

IMO this is not what they were looking for,
they wanted an heavyweight not another middleweight who will get beaten down by EVERY HEAVYWEIGHT in the EAst. I mean its better than nothing I am glad he won't be in the press box in Montreal but well.. I would have loved to see an guy like Erskine, Shelley having this spot. |

This pick up is a bit of a slap in the face to Anthony Stewart...they called him up several times and he plays with no emotion, no scraps, barely even a shot on a goal. So they brought in someone else to be an energy guy.

This should add some chippiness to the Florida Panthers, and make for some interesting games. It doesn't solve their enforcer problem, but it's a step in the right direction.
