Owen Nolan signs with Zurich of Swiss League

Quote:
Owen Nolan has not given up on playing in the NHL.

The 38-year-old winger is slated to be on a plane headed to Switzerland on Thursday night. He's joining Zurich of the Swiss League in what he hopes is the first step in bringing him back to the NHL this season.

"I'm still eager to play," Nolan told ESPN.com Wednesday night. "I feel like I still have something in the tank and can help a team."

The plan is for him to play for Zurich for a month and "show that I can still play," Nolan said.

Swiss hockey is played on bigger ice-surfaces and with lot's of skating and speed...could be difficult for Nolan to show that he is still good enough.

Nolan was powerforward but a bit lazy player in defensive area.
He is old so he left the NHL.

Please don't comment on a player you know nothing about.

No, not lazy, Always one of the hardest working players, and he drops the gloves. Probably would have been resigned by the Wild but went to San Jose on a Verbal offer that never panned out.

I am really surprised he is not in the NHL this year. The guy is a warrior and still producing.

I wish the old Irish goat nothing but the best. I really enjoyed having him wear a Wild sweater, and would have liked to see him here for one more year. He may be getting a little long in the tooth, but he more than proved that he can still contribute when called upon. Hell, he even stepped up and fought Orr when he had to! I think he still has a bit left in the tank, and probably should have landed with an NHL squad this year.

*Dear Wild Management: Is there any way we can ditch the load that is Chuck Kobasew and bring back Nolan for one more year?

Thanks,

KO King

He never went to San Jose on a verbal offer. He wasn't in training camp and management never wanted him back, only the fans.

I remembered wrong player Nolan in it interview Pro hockey magazine.
Like his teammate sayed; he do all the things on the ice, fights, hits, scores the goals and plays the penalty killing.
So i was wrong actually Jensen.
I just remembered wrong.

Nolan is a player which i respects because he drops the gloves down.

He lives there, and owns retaurants there, his family is there, and he hoped to be invited to their camp, and like I said probably could have got a 1 year with the Wild, but gambled on the Sharks.

Excellent temper, I remember him getting glove punched by Eric Cairns in front of the Islanders goal. He looked at the linesman saw there was no penalty and then landed a beauty sucker glove shot in retaliation. Cairns made him man up and Nolan lost the fight, but that was some funny ****.

And somehow that equates to a verbal offer with the Sharks? Nolan participates in the Captain's Skate every year with San Jose, that's nothing new. Nolan wanted to come back to SJ, but management did not want him back. There was no verbal offer, nothing.
