Ottawa recalls Brodeur and O'Brien
a little late i'll be honest but no one else posted this.
Ottawa Senators OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today recalled goaltender Mike Brodeur and forward Jim O’Brien on an emergency basis from the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. Brodeur replaces Pascal Leclaire, while O’Brien replaces Alex Kovalev. Brodeur, 27, has made one NHL appearance this season, stopping 12 of the 14 shots he faced after replacing starter Brian Elliott on Jan. 1 in Ottawa’s 5-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Brodeur had served as back-up to Elliott in Ottawa’s previous five games before being re-assigned to Binghamton on Jan. 2. The Calgary native has played in three games with Binghamton this season, posting a 2-1-0 record with a 2.75 goals-against-average and .910 save percentage. In four games with the East Coast Hockey League’s Elmira Jackals, he has a 3-1-0 record, with a 2.59 goals-against-average and .912 save percentage. O’Brien, 21, was recalled to Ottawa on Dec. 31 and made his NHL debut later that day in the Senators’ 4-3 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. He has recorded no points or penalty minutes in two NHL games this season. The native of Maplewood, Minn., has recorded 12 goals, 17 assists, 31 penalty minutes and is a +14 in 37 games with the B-Sens this season.

Because Lehner is considered to be a future #1 and this version of Brodeur isnt much better then the one in NJ.

The org has high hopes for Lehner, but he hasn't really shown much since graduating from Junior in the Soo. I think he is about 2-3 years away, but there's not really much to lose at this point... If he sucks it would probably even be to the benefit of the team in the long run. We need a top 5 draft pick. If we can get Alfredsson to waive his NTC to go to Vancouver (I'm dreaming) we could probably nab Cory Schneider to shore up our goalie prospects. There is big value in having a young goalie contribute on an ELC. We have NO CHANCE of signing any good UFAs for the next 3 years unless they are like Kovalev or Gonchar where they are offered uncalled for contract terms, and we are their only option. Locke is useless, Denis Hamel v2.0. The B-Sens need him for a playoff push. I don't care that he put up 150 points for Kilrea.

Worked a few days with Brodeurs mother in law last year. She said he was pretty frustrated with his lack of playing time in the show but pointed out that Grapes featuring him on HNIC a few times was a real highlite.
