Ottawa Reassigns Nikita Filatov to Binghamton
 

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today they have reassigned forward Nikita Filatov to the team’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

Filatov, 21, has recorded one assist and two penalty minutes in two regular-season games this season with the Senators. In 46 career National Hockey League games, he has recorded six goals and eight assists for 14 points.

The Moscow native was acquired June 25 by the Senators from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a third-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Even though he's only 21, I feel like he's probably one of the bigger draft busts in the last five to ten years or so. It's hard to believe that some thought he was just beneath Stamkos in his draft year. It's also hard to believe guys like Myers, Karlsson, Eberle and Ennis went after him when you look back at it.

Like you said hes still young, but it just seems like hes never gonna live up to his expectations

I admire Filatov's willigness to make it in the NHL...other russian primadonnas headed home to the KHL quickly. At least he is trying to make it but later or sooner I guess he'll go back home too.

I mean if he isn't able to make the Senators this season he really isn't that great at all, it's not like they are a deep team.

I don't know man, I'd figure they're a Wade Redden away from being favourites in the East.

He's very close to being a bust. He could turn it around with a big season in the AHL, but if he doesn't dominate down there this year, I don't think he'll ever make it.

I love this team and I've seen some promising signs, but even if Jared Cowen is the next Chris Pronger, for the next 3-4 years we're bogged down with some ****ty contracts. Phillips, Gonchar, Kuba...half our blue line are basically choke artists, and we're seeing that same losing pattern creeping into Karlsson's game at an alarming pace. The offense is ok, but they're hardly beasts of the east. At least not yet.

Filatov just didn't do anything exceptionally well. Maybe another stint in the AHL will do the trick, but if not, he was traded for a third round pick. Little ventured, little lost!

I hate Ottawa (myself being a Leafs fan,) but I will say that they've intrigued me a bit so far. They impressed me with their determination that made Detroit look so bad in the third period of the season opener and then again against Toronto by outscoring them 5-2 in the third.

Their defence definitely has some issues (namely Gonchar and to a slightly lesser degree, Phillips,) but I do like Cowen and Karlsson. Anderson at the back end is very capable, but will have to face a lot of shots this year.

I'm not a huge fan of the the teams' forwards. There are too many borderline AHLer's and not enough guys that have established themselves like an Alfredsson, Michalek (who quietly is good for twenty goals a year) or a Spezza.

Honestly, I'd really like to seem them and Toronto get back to where they were pre-lockout. Those games were probably some of the best that I've got to watch so far.

He ran home to the KHL once already. Blue Jackets made out like they agreed with his departure, but that is really questionable. More like he didn't like the hand he was dealt, so he left. He displayed blazing fast speed in Syracuse, fun to watch him dip his shoulder and go around defensemen like they were pylons, but also didn't know anything at all about playing defense.
Worth a gamble. If he has a better idea of what it takes yo play both ways, he could be one of the biggest surprises this year.
