Ortmeyer to become a Free Agent

It appears more and more evident that Jed Ortmeyer's days of crashing into the corners as a New York Ranger are numbered. Ortmeyer becomes an unrestricted free agent Sunday and his agent, Mark Witkin, said there has been no contact between the two parties.

Hard to picture them not even offering Jed a contract considering his following in NY, a 4 man rotation of Betts, Orty, Orr and Hollweg on the 4th line would be very nice imo, have someone who can fight out there every night and still have guys who can bring a hard forecheck and throw the body.

Now if they could go and get some 3rd line talent.....

Ortmeyer always seemed to me to have the ability to be a Jay Pandolfo/John Madden type player who would really develop into a great defensive minded checking forward, I'm very surprised the Rangers didn't make him an offer. He's fast, forechecks like crazy, and will block any puck that comes near him.

I hate the Rangers, but I really like the way Ortmeyer plays. Skates hard, finishes his checks, and does it much cleaner than Hollweg. He may have hands of stone, but he's a great guy to have on your team.

I hate him...which means i would love him on the Isles. He plays hard and is fun to watch.

I wouldn't mind having him on the Flyers but I see him signing with the Devils. His brother plays (or played) for Trenton. I know this is a stupid reason to think they'll get him but I just got that feeling. Plus, him and Janssen would create havoc on a line together.

I wouldn't mind having him on the Coyotes. Gratton and Ortmeyer on the 4th line=brilliant.

The Devils don't really need a guy like Ortmeyer when they have Janssen, Rupp and potentially Pelley if he has a good training camp. There are a lot of other teams out there that could use a guy like him though.

The Rangers have too many players some third mostly 4th who can't score. Sure Ortmeyer plays hard but he has hands of stone, can't fight either

It makes more sense for the Rangers to bring up a kid from Hartford who may give a good effort and put the puck in the net.

I wouldn't be surprised to see that if the Rangers let him walk, Maloney knows all about Jed and probably wouldn't hesitate to get him in the desert.

Yeah, I guess you're right. The Flyers actually don't need him either with Eager and possibly Cote.
