Brash is a tough guy, so what the hell is he doing with Jagr. He probably planned on a suspension so as not to fight big George, as he has opted out of fighting upon occasion, when there is a chance of him losing. Love to see Boogey hand him his ass. As for the suspensions, they are a joke for totally different reasons.

Yea I'm sure Brash would get suspended to miss a game against Laraque. It would be a little smarter of him to show up,get paid, and not fight Laraque. You are a retard if you think he got suspended on purpose.
And you are all going nuts about AO selling the crosscheck yet it's fine that Ward dropped like a little bitch from that half punch.
Orr should not have been suspended 5 games though,it is unreal. If he had hit Clymer he probably would have gotten nothing.

One of the rumors floating around was that Ward used a racial slur before Brash popped him. If so, it makes sense that the league took that into account and only gave him a game.

Orr took a blatant cheapshot at a star player. What would you expect the league to do? Ovechkin's lucky he got his gloves up, otherwise he could easily have been out for weeks with a busted face. You can talk about double standards and five games is definitely pretty heavy, but not as outrageous as most people seem to think.

I wish there was something we could do to voice our displeasure. I know Bettman's offices are in NYC on 6th ave. (maybe 7th? not sure). Wish there was some sort of "Give us our sport back" march we could do right outside the piece of crap's office.

Seems a bit odd since all of the refs where close to them. They would probably have heard it. And you would assume Ward would be suspended if he did.
But its not unlikely as it has happend before.

Marchment called Brash a "monkey" or "ape" I don't think he was suspended, of it was just a short one, 1 game or so. since the league accepted his explanation that he didn't mean to offend Brash by the comment.
Which was redicilous

Two huge matchups ruined already this year:

McGrattan v.s. Boogaard-cause Boogaard was injured
Brashear v.s. Laraque-cause Brashear will be suspended

Last year I was very let down when Brashear got injured and ruined the Brashear v.s. Shelley matchup. These things happen though...

Although Im very upset that the possibility of Brash/Laraque is gone,Im very thankful it is only a 1 game suspension and Im hoping Fedoruk will be ready to go with Brashear on the 9th!

Based on the average annual value of his contract, Orr forfeits $13,235.29 in salary. Brashear, suspended for three games earlier in the season, forfeits $12,195.12. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Orr was suspended for a crosschecking blow to the head of Washington forward Alexander Ovechkin at 15:40 of the third period. Brashear was assessed a match penalty for punching Rangers defenseman Aaron Ward at 7:39 of the third period.

"The Rangers player's actions with his stick were reckless and dangerous," said Colin Campbell, NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations. "Although no injury resulted, the action is unacceptable."

Orr will miss the Rangers' games, Jan. 2 at New Jersey, Jan. 4 against Philadelphia, Jan. 6 at Montreal, Jan. 9 against the New York Islanders and Jan. 11 against Ottawa.

Brashear will miss the Capitals' game Jan. 1 against Phoenix.
Tom Renney said the Rangers plan is to have Hossa replace Orr. He wants muscle in the lineup!

brashear was doing his job in a losing effort against jagr. that is why he is out there. although gary bettman is trying to eliminate players who intimidate the other team, brashear still knows his role.

brashear and boogey fought last season, brash beat him. excelent point.

i seriously doubt brashear has been lying awake at nights for weeks planning his master plan: to punch ward in the face after fighting brenden shannahan so he didn't have to fight georges laraque. i think brash would have fought him, and if he didn't want to, he would skate away like he has many times in the past. if you want to hate on brashear, fine, i have no problem with that, i have no love for him, but at least put some thought into it, and be reasonable.

addressing the racial slur issue, i seriously doubt Ward would be stupid enough to throw racial slurs out at brashear while the linesman is 1.1 inch from him. that would be pretty stupid don't you think? i am sooooooooooooooooooo tired of everything that ever happens being turned into a racially charged incident. beleive it or not, sometimes things actually happen for reasons other than race.

I just watched both of these a few times and the 1 game for Brashear is justified, it was a good attempted sucker punch, but he didn't really land it, it's not like he knocked Ward out cold. Five games for Orr is a little much, granted you can't just take a run at somebody and try and cross check them in the face/head, but 2 or 3 games would have sent a better message. Still with Scott Nichol still serving a NINE game suspension, these sentences were probably a little light given the way things tend to go these days.
