Orr Suspended Five Games, Brashear One
NEW YORK – New York Rangers forward Colton Orr has been suspended for five games and Washington Capitals forward Donald Brashear has been suspended for one game as a result of separate incidents during the third period of NHL Game #572 at Madison Square Garden Saturday night.

Based on the average annual value of his contract, Orr forfeits $13,235.29 in salary. Brashear, suspended for three games earlier in the season, forfeits $12,195.12. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Orr was suspended for a crosschecking blow to the head of Washington forward Alexander Ovechkin at 15:40 of the third period. Brashear was assessed a match penalty for punching Rangers defenseman Aaron Ward at 7:39 of the third period.

"The Rangers player's actions with his stick were reckless and dangerous," said Colin Campbell, NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations. "Although no injury resulted, the action is unacceptable."

Orr will miss the Rangers' games, Jan. 2 at New Jersey, Jan. 4 against Philadelphia, Jan. 6 at Montreal, Jan. 9 against the New York Islanders and Jan. 11 against Ottawa.

Brashear will miss the Capitals' game Jan. 1 against Phoenix.

Why didn't Ovechkin get suspended for his hit on Briere. Someone is going to have to straighten that punk out sooner or later.

I am bit surprised Brashear got only one match suspension,i think it means that the Laraque vs Brashear matchup wont happen.But great news,he got only one game.But Orr got 5 match suspension? Strange.

that is ridiculous. orr gets 5 games for a crosscheck and 1 game for brashear who sucker punched someone after the play. orr got suspended for so long becasue it was ovechkin. if it was morrison who he cheapshotted i guarantee u he mayb gets 1 game

If Orr suckered anyone else on that Caps team he wouldn't have been suspended. And if he did it sure as hell wouldn't be a 5 gamer. Brashears punch was far worse than Orr's hit up high. What if it was the other way around? What if Ovechkin did that to Orr? Would we see Ovechkin gone for 5? Would he even be suspended? NO!

agreed with others that said this is BS, Orr gets 5 for cross-checking and Brashear gets 1 for a sucker punch. if Brashear sucker-punched Jagr rather than Aaron Ward then he would have got more than 1. bs all around.

Wow that is unexpected. The Brashear supension seems fair. But the five games to Orr is ridiclous I wouldn't even give him one.
