Oilers Sign Ryan Jones
 

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with forward Ryan Jones on a two-year contract.

Jones, 26, played in 81 games last year collecting 25 points (18G, 7A) and 34 penalty minutes. His 18 goals had him tied for second with Jordan Eberle on the team’s goal scoring list, four behind Taylor Hall’s team leading 22.

The 6'1", 205-pound Chatham, Ontario native was claimed on waivers by Edmonton on March 3, 2010 and has appeared in 176 NHL games scoring 33 goals and adding 21 assists for 54 points with the Oilers and Nashville Predators.

Jones played four seasons with the Miami-University Redhawks of the CCHA where he had 147 points (90G, 57A) in 161 games before being drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the 4th round, 111th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

He should also win the NHL's Cy Young award considering the numbers he posted....

Definitley a surprise for the Oilers this season, but considering all the injuries and the players that went down, someone had to pick up some goals here and there - wonder if this was an anomaly or a breakout of some kind.

Just in case, good that the Oilers only gave him a 2 year deal...

Zherdev should also be considered for the NHL Cy Young.

He had more goals per minute played than almost anyone in the NHL if I remember correctly...

You don't score 18 by accident... however, I do like the fact it's a 2 year deal to see if this is for real or just another Fernando Pisani type thing :(

I like Ryan Jones. Plays with some sand and can put the biscuit in the basket when needed.

I doubt he scores 18 again, but it's not like he had a huge increase in his shooting percentage, so I can't see him falling right off. He's a hard worker, so if he stops finding the net, at $1.5 mil he's not completely useless.
