Oilers Sign Jordan Eberle to Six-Year Contract Extension
General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with right-winger Jordan Eberle on a six-year, $36 million dollar extension.
Eberle, 22, led the team in scoring last season with a career-high 76 points (34G, 42A), in just his second season in the National Hockey League. His 76 points earned him a spot in the 2012 NHL All-Star Game in Ottawa and helped him become a finalist for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. The 5’11, 184-pound Regina, Saskatchewan native finished 15th overall in points in the NHL as well as 15th overall in goals scored. In his rookie campaign in 2010-11, he also led the club in scoring with 43 points (18G, 25A) in 69 games. Eberle represented Team Canada at the 2009 and 2010 World Junior Hockey Championships and was named the tournament's Best Forward and Most Valuable Player in 2010. He also played in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 World Hockey Championships for Canada. Eberle was Edmonton’s 1st round selection, 22nd overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. The kid was 15th in the entire league in scoring in his second NHL season, playing on the worst team in the league and missed 4 games to injury...
He's an absolute keeper. This price is going to be a bargain (if it isn't already). Eberle is special. He's better than Hall in almost all facets of the game hands down. Best instincts I've seen on a kid in a long, long, long time. Watch how many of his goals are just tap ins to an empty net. He knows where to go without the puck. He just gets it. I expect his numbers to be significantly better over time with RNH feeding him the puck, who also shows very special vision for an 18 year old kid. It's an exciting time to be an Oilers fan with Hall, Ebs, RNH, Yack, Schultz, Petry and Dubnyk all on the cusp of potential greatness. Oilers fans have suffered through some of the worst post expansion teams since the 2006 run... it's time for a change.

MacT on the Oilers bottom six forwards: ""We had a lot of guys that the best they were going to be in any given game was a non-factor." Maybe there is hope in Edmonton? Finally, a guy in charge who doesn't believe Lennart Petrell is a legitimate roster player. Last edited by OilersHockey; 08-31-2012 at 09:14 AM. |

At first I was like holy overpayment batman, but then I looked at his numbers and if he can keep producing like he did last year it looks like a good deal for both parties.

Like this much better than the Hall deal, he's a better player and less injury prone.
Also, because he took this like a champ:
He had that "She'll be back when I'm making millions of dollars in the N-****ing H-L. They always are..." look on his face. Last edited by Stevens Lindros; 08-31-2012 at 08:36 PM. |
