Oilers Sign Cameron Abney To Entry-Level Contract

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with right-winger Cameron Abney on a three-year entry level contract.

Abney, 19, finished his second season with the Western Hockey League's Edmonton Oil Kings, appearing in 60 games collecting 20 points (7G, 13A) and 72 penalty minutes. In four playoff games, the Aldergrove, British Columbia native notched a goal and had six penalty minutes.

Abney, 6’5”, 205-pounds, has played in 180 career WHL games with the Everett Silvertips and the Oil Kings and has 37 points (14G, 23A) and 298 penalty minutes.

Abney was drafted by the Oilers in the 3rd round (82nd overall), of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

I'm a little surprised by this move. Abney has regressed over the last year or two, IMO. I know he has battled injuries but he's pretty much fallen off the radar in the WHL.
