Oilers Recall Stortini; Place Staios on IR
The Edmonton Oilers have placed defenceman Steve Staios on the NHL Injured Reserve List and have recalled forward Zack Stortini from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.
Staios has been sidelined for the Oilers’ last four games (January 10th to 18th) with the flu and a knee strain. This will be Stortini’s second recall to the Oilers this season, having previously been recalled on November 20th. The 6’3”, 215-pound native of Elliot Lake, Ontario did not play in the Oilers’ 2-1 win versus the Calgary Flames at Rexall Place on November 21st and was reassigned to Hamilton on November 22nd. The 21-year-old winger has scored 9-6-15 with 172 PIM and is +1 in 42 games with Hamilton this season. He was 12th on the Bulldogs scoring list and led the AHL in penalty minutes at the time of his recall. Three of his nine goals have been scored on the powerplay.

This division just got a whole lot tougher in the past few weeks...
Nucks: add Jeff Cowan (better than what they had) Flames: bring up Eric Godard Oilers: bring up Stortini All thats left is for the Avs to bring someone up or add someone. Good move, Godard did have a lot of "fun" with Wild players while Boogaard was shelved in the locker room. |

I don't care if he's Matt Barnaby's little brother, at least there's one more willing heavy in the league.

They are already hyping up a possible Godard - Stortini on TSN. It's the feature artical on TSN right now.
The feature article at TSN right now is about how the Flames called up Godard yesterday, and that the Oilers responded by bringing up Stortini today. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/ For the whole story, http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=192882&hubname=nhl

Well lets see if Stortini can do the job to stay up for a while cuz im sick of seein only Greene and Winchester do the work when they have Zack to do it all.

I have watched Zack Stortini all year in Hamilton and he can fight. He has a rivalry with Eric Godard and hopefully tonight they will both fight. Stortini will stand in front of the net and is hard to move. He is good on the scrambles and that is how he has gotten most of his goals this season. He just may score tonight. Both teams will try and put them both out there against each other as much as possible. Since Stortini is gone, the Bulldogs should call up tough guy Jimmy Bonneau from Cincinnati to fill the void. I hear he can fight and has good size at 6ft3, 220lbs. He is the Canadiens enforcer of the future.
