Oilers Recall Dean Arsene

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have recalled defenceman Dean Arsene from Springfield of the American Hockey League.

Arsene, 29, has two assists and 29 PIM in 15 games this year with the Springfield Falcons. The Murrayville, BC native played the past six seasons with the Hershey Bears of the AHL before joining the Oilers organization. He enjoyed his best year in 2006-07 with the Bears where he had 15 points (3G, 12A) and 187 PIM in 61 games.

Arsene, who has won two Calder Cups, will be looking to play in his first career NHL game Sunday when Edmonton takes on the Atlanta Thrashers.

Way to go Dean-o. He was a fan favorite for years in Hershey. It's great to see him get an NHL shot.

Unfortunately for Arsene, it looks like Souray will be ready to go tomorrow. Dean's up in case Sheldon can't go.

I hope that he could get a shot at some point this season. This is one of the best guys in hockey. I'm not even exaggerating. He was a fan favorite in Hershey for a reason. Loved mingling with the fans after games especailly the kids. Guy plays with all heart. I know the first year he won the cup with Hershey he was playing with a bunch of injuries to his upper body...a seperated shoulder and rib injury come to mind. Physical player and not afraid to lose his gloves. Springfield was smart naming him captain too.

As a Phantoms fan, he's one Hershey Bear that I couldn't hate. Much respect to the way he plays and carries himself. I hope at the very least later on this year w/ injuries they give him a shot since it looks like Souray will be playing.

I think you'd enjoy Arsene's style.
