Oilers Re-Sign Sam Gagner to One-Year Contract
General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with centre Sam Gagner on a one-year contract.
The deal will pay Gagner $3.2M next season. Gagner, 22, played in 75 games last season with the Oilers scoring a career-high 18 goals with 29 assists for 47 points highlighted by an NHL record-tying eight-point night vs. Chicago Blackhawks on February 2, 2012. The 5'11", 195-pound London, ON native has spent his entire career with Edmonton since being drafted by the club 6th overall in 2007. In his five seasons, Gagner has played in 366 games collecting 220 points (77G, 143A). Last edited by chilly666; 07-20-2012 at 11:43 AM. |

Glad to see it was only a 1 year, 3.2 million dollar deal. Gags didn't deserve a long term deal and now has the opportunity to show that he might deserve one, while still being paid a modest amount.

thats exactly why i think this is a good signing. i mentioned in my blog that the best move for both Gags and the Oils would be a 1 or 2 year deal with an AAV of 2.5-3.5 million. happy to see it worked out this way and that Edmonton is protected from being locked in long term for a player not worth it, and Gags is making good money with a chance to prove he's worth more.
