Oilers Place Nedved on IR; Recall Kyle Brodziak

The Edmonton Oilers have placed centre Petr Nedved on the NHL Injured Reserve List and recalled centre Kyle Brodziak from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League.

This is the second time that Nedved has been placed on the NHL Injured Reserve List as he was previously placed on the IRL on February 23rd and missed five games with a knee sprain suffered at Toronto on February 17th.

Nedved has scored 1-4-5 with 8 PIM in 19 games with the Oilers since being claimed off waivers on January 2nd from the Philadelphia Flyers. In 21 games with Philadelphia, Nedved scored 1-6-7 with 18 PIM.

Brodziak makes his first appearance with the Oilers this season. The 6’2”, 198-pound 22-year-old from St. Paul, Alberta has spent the entire season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. At the time of his recall, Brodziak, the Oilers 9th choice (7th round), 214th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, was second on the Penguins scoring list with a career-high 21-25-46 in 49 games. He also ranked second in goals and assists and was third in plus/minus at +11. He scored four powerplay goals and a shorthanded goal while registering 40 penalty minutes with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Brodziak made his NHL debut with the Oilers in 2005-06, playing 10 games with no points and four penalty minutes.

He has scored 39-70-109 with 130 PIM in 160 career AHL games since beginning his professional career with the Edmonton Road Runners in 2004-05.

I don't think he's hurt at all...

I think this is just another way to get a 7th young kind into the lineup to see what he can do at this level.


Brodziak was next on the depth chart - now he's playing...


Nedved looked fine to me last time out...
