Oilers Agree to Terms With Torres on Three-Year Deal

The Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with left winger Raffi Torres on a three-year contract.

The 6’0”, 216-pound native of Toronto, Ontario was sixth on the Oilers scoring list in 2006-07 with 34 points, on 15 goals and a single-season career-high 19 assists. The 25-year-old forward ranked fifth on the Oilers in goals, sixth in assists and was fifth in penalty minutes with 88. Torres aggressive style of play saw him finish third on the Oilers and first among forwards with 114 hits.

“We are pleased to have Raffi back in the fold,” said Edmonton Oilers General Manager, Kevin Lowe. “Raffi is a dynamic player, who brings a physical style of play to our team.”

One of only three Oilers to play in all 82 games this season, Torres will enter the 2007-08 season, his sixth in the NHL and fourth with the Oilers, with the longest active games played streak at 186. The streak began on February 21, 2004 and has seen him play all 82 games in each of the last two seasons.

Torres reached several career milestones with the Oilers in 2006-07, scoring his 100th career Oilers point with a goal versus Columbus on January 31st and netted a goal for his 100th career NHL point on December 19th versus Colorado.

Since joining the Oilers from the New York Islanders on March 11, 2003, Torres has scored 62-47-109 with 203 penalty minutes in 244 career games. He has scored 62-53-115 with 219 penalty minutes in 275 career NHL games since beginning his NHL career in 2001-02.
