Oilers Agree to Terms With Andy Sutton
General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with defenceman Andy Sutton on a one-year contract extension.
Sutton, 36, has appeared in 33 games with the Oilers this season, collecting three goals and six assists along with 56 penalty minutes. The 6’6”, 245-pound rearguard was acquired on July 1, 2011 from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Kurtis Foster. In 657 career NHL games, the London, Ontario native has 149 points (38G, 111A) and 1,161 penalty minutes. He has also played for the San Jose Sharks, Minnesota Wild, Atlanta Thrashers, New York Islanders and Ottawa Senators. Sutton, who was undrafted, played four seasons with the NCAA's Michigan Tech, collecting 56 points (22G, 34A) in 121 games, including 40 points in 38 games in his final year. I'll take anyone to get Cam Barker off the fuc(ing ice...
Sutton's been solid when he's not suspended. He brings some much needed toughness on the D side with Peckham, and you could argue Smid (who does add at least some grit)
