Oilers Acquire Mike Brown from Maple Leafs

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired RW Mike Brown from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a fourth-round selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Brown, 27, is listed at 5-11 and 212 pounds. He played for the University of Michigan and has 25 points and 519 penalty minutes in 254 career games with Vancouver, Anaheim and Toronto.

This season, he has one assist and 70 PIM and is +1 in 12 GP.

Sad to see Brown go but with Lupul and Frattin nearing return and the emergence of Frazer McLaren something had to give.

I like the move, but only for this reason. Once the leafs were completely healthy they mentioned during the game the othernight that one of the tough guys would probably get sent down. So while I hate that he's leaving the leafs at least he's going to a team that lacks toughness and may get to fight more. That's alot netter in my opinion for us fight fans than sending someone down. Now the rest of the leafs tough guys won't have to worry about playing time or getting sent down

Wow! Didn't see that coming. Brownie is a fave in TO. Good luck out West, I am gonna miss watching him in the East.

Look at the Flames forcing the conferences hand by signing McGrattan (not that I expect Brown to fight McG, thats Hordi's job if he gets called up). The soft teams are starting to add some grit and toughness.

What? Why? He was a huge part of the new identity in TO, had played for Carlyle before and not that they're in trouble in the toughness dept, but could have been a chip to get somebody to help in the push this year, rather than a 4th rounder.

Conversely, great move by Edmonton, but they still have a ways to go. Here's hoping they call up Hordi or make another deal.

In response to the McGrattan move by the Flames and the Sestito claim by Vancouver? Good pickup by the Oilers.

Back in the day Toronto would have kept and played all of them. Belak, Domi, Corson, Tucker, Perrott etc etc etc....was room enough for all of them.

By playoffs, if the Leafs squeak in, Mclaren will see no time...and they'll be back to what they were last season about.

This.

Also, Rupp in Minni and Bordeleau is picking it up a bit in Colorado. Nice move by the Oil.

I enjoy watching Brown.

Not surprising...at least Leafs keeps McLaren.

But my question is why did Oilers get Brown? They already have Eager. Brown will actually do his job unlike Eager anyway.

McLaren was told by the team to by a house because he had made the team. Sad to see Brown go, but it was bound to happen. Would rather see Kulemin go though.

Eager is done. He's not supposed to fight any more. Have no idea why he is even on the team, must be something I don't know.

Brown is 10x better than Eager anyway, he's just not a heavyweight but at least the Oilers are doing something about their weakness. Seeing Gagner fight must have lit a fire under management's butt.

Sad day for Toronto fans. I don't like this move, but I understand it. Now who's gonna fight all the non heavies? Fraser? Hope not, he's solid as it comes on D.

Mike Brown was a little ball of hate, I loved it, congrats Oiler fans. Somewhere Flyer fans breath a sigh of relief.

Now let's get Kulemin outta here.

Don't get why the Oilers wouldn't keep or play Hordichuk and get Brown instead. Don't think he is much of an upgrade, besides his willingness to fight.
