O'Brien Receives One Game Suspension

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Shane O'Brien has been suspended for one game, without pay, for an incident against the New York Rangers on Nov. 3.

At 4:21 of the third period, O'Brien's stick made contact with the Rangers' Sean Avery, while both were on their respective players' benches. No penalty was assessed at the time of the incident.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, O'Brien will forfeit $8,290.16. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

O'Brien will miss Thursday's game at Minnesota and be eligible to return Nov. 6 at Dallas.

bout time the nhl gives a fair suspension.. if it was up to me he wouldnt of gotten anything (then again im on hockeyfights.com what do you expect?)

I wish he would of speared Avery harder. If your going to do something like that might as well make it count.

I don't think it's worth any suspension...it was just a little poke. There were 10,000 of this in back ol' time. Sad.

I wish he would have thought it through even less and hopped the boards. Then we would have had some real fun a la Anaheim and Dallas March 13, 1998 or San Jose and Edmonton December 23, 1998.

My thoughts exactly. You know the league is going to hand out a punishment when you jab at someone on the other bench with your stick these days, so make it worth it! It's Sean Avery, why not stick him in the teeth?

And that really was a very disappointing scrum/sequence of events. It seemed like it was just teetering on the edge of becoming an all-out melee, but unfortunately it never did cross that line.

Pretty stupid decision. He had to know on some level he'd be getting some time for it, should have just left the bench and dragged Vaginaface over the boards and fed him his own teeth. That'd be worth losing some time over.
I had high hopes coming into this thread, vid's a major letdown...
