I've seen worse go unpunished but it was a hit delivered before the puck arrived on a totally unsuspecting opponent who had his back to Hjalmarsson the entire time, even if the contact ended up being from the side. I actually don't have a huge problem with the suspension.

"The other reason is Pat Kaleta, on the record threatened Hjalmarsson for Saturday's game without using his name. Kaleta said on Tuesday, "We're a team here and it'll get taken care of with the league or we play them Saturday so we'll make a point that you can't be taking hits like that against one of our leaders and one of our better players." I have zero problem with that. I hope the Sabres do address it aggressively. The NHL could've at least made it three games and avoid would could be a nasty incident Saturday night at the United Center, but as usual in these matters, the league is clueless." He'll be back on Saturday when they host the Sabres at home. Will Sabres actually do something about it? No I doubt. But maybe Kaleta and him will drop the gloves and fight but that's pretty much it. |

kaleta should just keep his mouth shut as he is a coward 90% of the time. he just runs his mouth, but won't back it up ever along with being one of the dirtiest players in the league. ill laugh on saturday when kaleta does nothing to hjalmarsson or if he jumps him because that would be the cowardly thing that kaleta would do.

tell me how the hit was dirty? it wasn't fully from behind for one, two it wasn't a headshot. yes kaleta is one of the dirtiest players in the league, he may not have been suspended for each dirty thing he has done, but he alot worse than hjalmrsson ever has or will be

I am far too lazy to look into it, but has the league offered any reasoning to support their decision?
In no way was it a boarding, as he wasn't even close to facing the boards; and it wasn't a hit from behind, as it was more of a hip-check than anything; and it wasn't a blatantly egregious head-shot, as he came in with his hands down and the guys dome just bounced off the glass as a result of the hit; and I wouldn't call him a totally unsuspecting victim, as he was about to receive the puck and anyone in the NHL should know that as soon as tape meets rubber, someone is going to be looking to blow yours doors off. If anything, I see this as evidence of the further Bettman-Eurofication of the league, in that "the public" doesn't was to be subject to such gratuitous and violent acts. Got forbid someone do their job and deliver a big hit, removing the oppenent from the play. Some of my fondest NHL memories from when I was a kid was Scott Stevens' devestating open-ice hits, and to this day I still enjoy seeing someone get knocked into the fourth row via clean and legal hits. It is an intrinsic part of the game and it is an art to behold. I would hate to live to see the day when the NHL has been reduced to that of Girls' High School Hockey rules, with limited or no contact so that the dandies may skate unscathed. I understand that the Concussion issue has been the hot topic as of late, and I certainly don't wish injury on anyone (that is not entirely true....), but intense physicality is part of the game, and should be expected, and collateral damge that is the result of a legal hit should not be punished for the shear fact that it resulted in injury. |

Well, Hjarlmarrson's (sp?) defensive pairing has been John Scott up to this point. So...if Kaleta wants some retaliation, he had better know what he's getting himself into. Hjalmarrson has fought before but I dont know how he'd handle himself with someone that does it more regularly.
should make for an exciting game though. knowing Kaleta, he'll probably go after Nick Leddy or something. |

If you think this hit is clean and you think Kaleta is dirty. is this dirty by Kaleta?
