Montreal Agrees to Terms With Erik Cole on Four-Year Deal

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier announced Friday the signing of forward Erik Cole to a four-year contract (2011-12 to 2014-15).

Cole, 32, played in all 82 games with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2010-11. He recorded 52 points (26 goals, 26 assists), totaled 49 penalty minutes and served 225 hits. He also ranked fourth in the NHL with 9 game winning goals.

Cole completed in 2010-11 his ninth season in the NHL. Since he first joined the NHL in 2001-2002, the 6’2’’ and 205 lbs forward registered 390 points (184 goals, 206 assists) in 620 career regular season games. He totaled 557 penalty minutes, scored 43 powerplay goals and 35 game winning goals. A member of the 2006 Stanley Cup Champions Carolina Hurricanes, Cole played in a total of 43 career playoff games. He had a career-high 61 points (29 goals, 32 assists) in 71 games with the Hurricanes in 2006-07.

Born in Oswego, New York, Cole was a third-round selection, 71st overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

I've never liked Cole so he'll fit in perfectly on the Habs.

I actually like Erik Cole. Looks like I'll have to hate him now. Unfortunately for Montreal, despite him playing all 82 games last season, Cole is about as durable as glass.

He's also going to have to take some diving classes if he plans on fitting in with the Habs.

Don't like this one - Cole only seems to play well in Carolina - anyone else remember his forgettable 2 years as an Oiler? And this is a lot of money to throw at a oft-injured, inconsistent forward who's now 32 years old. I don't like it, but I knew Cole would cash-in big time today.

Eric Cole is actually not that bad of a diver as is - that is probably the only thing I used to not like about him. 18M is too much though and I'm not sure he has 4 more solid years in him.

Just ****ing horrible.

I honestly might have to hang up the shirt this year and leave it in the closet.

This team only gets worse and worse.

Enough of these stupid french GM's and coaches, ****ing hire someone who knows something about hockey.

18mil.......oh my.

edit -- geez if you go on the MTL forum these clowns are talking about Cole like he's going to light it up and provide some great grit. These Hab fans there are are drugged up or on acid or just plain dumb.

I think he's better then a lot of twats they currently have in there lineup but they sure gave him a lot of money.

When carolina won the cup he was one of there best players if not there best player.
He broke his neck with edmonton.
If he can return to form it might not be so bad.

i really don't dislike Erik Cole, i believe it's just too much cash for a second line player... but in order to sign talent you have to be someone that can throw money around.
