Montreal Acquires Alex Tanguay
OTTAWA - Canadiens GM Bob Gainey announced Friday the acquisition of forward Alex Tanguay along with a fifth round pick (138th overall) in 2008 from the Calgary Flames in return for the Canadiens’ first round selection (25th overall) in 2008 and a second round pick in 2009.
Tanguay, 28, will enter his eighth NHL season in 2008-09. Last season, the left winger played 78 games with the Flames recording 58 points, including 18 goals, had a plus-11 rating and was assessed 48 penalty minutes. Tanguay has recorded 539 points (177 goals and 362 assists) in 609 NHL career games with 311 penalty minutes and a plus-111 rating. The Ste-Justine, Quebec native participated in the Stanley Cup playoffs in each of his first eight NHL seasons recording a total of 58 points (19 goals, 39 assists) in 96 games. Tanguay, 6-foot-1 and 191 pounds, was a first round selection, 12th overall, by the Colorado Avalanche in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He was instrumental in the Avalanche’s Stanley Cup championship in 2000-01, recording 21 points, including 6 goals, in 23 games. Last edited by Thrillhouse; 06-23-2008 at 10:15 AM. |

I guess they needed some added offense since Kovalev is likely to slip back into playing like he's in a coma.

Montreal is going to be a top dog next season with or without Sundin. Adding Tanguay was huge. Their PP is gonna fly now.

So, the Alex Tanguay experiment is over in Calgary.
Can't say I'm surprised - it seems that ever since Tanguay got here, he's been surrounded by trade rumours. And as a result, I don't think he was ever truly comfortable here in Calgary. He played great under Playfair's relaxed style - but folded a little under Keenan's iron regime. And I don't think he was ever really liked by the fan base here either - too much of a floater. All in all, good deal for both teams - Calgary frees some cap space and discards a bloated contract with a no-trade claus while they squeeze in Cammaleri, while Montreal gets another scorer to fill out there top two lines at relatively little cost.

So because their PP was the best last year, that means it can't improve? What happened to their PP in the playoffs?............
