SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed right wingers Joey Tetarenko (pronounced teh-tar-EHN-koh) and Kyle Wanvig.

Tetarenko, 27 (3/3/78), has played in 73 NHL games, collecting five points (4-1=5) to go along with 176 penalty minutes while playing in parts of four seasons with Florida, Ottawa and Carolina. The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan-native was Florida’s fourth selection (82nd overall) in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound winger made his Houston Aeros debut last season, skating in 15 games for the Wild’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, notching one point (0-1=1) and 47 penalty minutes.

Wanvig, 24 (1/29/81), skated in 76 games with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season and totaled 30 points (13-17=30) including a career-high 17 assists and 158 penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-foot-2, 219-pound forward ranked tied for first on the team with seven power play goals and four game-winning tallies and third in PIM. Wanvig led Houston in scoring during the 2003-04 campaign with 25 goals and 41 points in 72 contests and was named to the AHL All-Star Team. He also led the club with 10 power play goals and seven game-winning markers. The Calgary, Alberta-native has appeared in 13 career NHL contests with Minnesota. He made his NHL debut on November 25, 2002 against Vancouver and registered his first career NHL goal on December 17, 2002 against Edmonton.

Wanvig was selected by Minnesota in the second round (36th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He re-entered the 2001 NHL Entry Draft after being selected by Boston in the third round (89th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Interesting to see if Tetarenko will see some time with the big club or if they are satisfied with only having Nazarov in the lineup.

I think Wanvig is ready to get quite a few games in NHL.
