Google still has Red Wings in the runnings as of right now.
Let's see if Suter is near as good w/o Weber as the number 1 d man. I've watched a lot of his games over the years and think that he's overrated.

Huge day for the Wild and the fan base. First things first, the team needed this. After missing the playoffs the past few years, and then the collapse the team had last year, the fan base has been rabid and needed some sort of boost. Being told "prospects are coming" really isn't the best selling point to a market as hockey crazy as this.
The caliber of players and money involved, it is what it is. You have two guys entering their primes and a decent cast already in place in their prime or entering their prime, so the complimentary pieces are there. I'm not hip on the 13 years though. I wasn't happy to see other teams offer these deals, and I'm not happy to see my home team offer it. I understand why from the players perspective and the teams, but I'm not a fan of circumventing the cap and locking a player up for this long. IMO, 8 or 9 years offers plenty of guarantee to players they'll be around for the long haul, and gives them plenty of opportunities to build a life in the respective city or place they choose. Its done though, and hopefully that gets addressed in the CBA discussions upcoming.

Both Parise and Suter are 27 y.o. and have solid Minnesota ties (Suter's wife is from Twin Cities and Parise and family live there). These are eye popping contracts but the owner is married to a S.C. Johnson heiress so money alone isn't a great issue. SC Johnson Brands Great moves by the Wild for the loyal fans of Minnesota. Last edited by Walt; 07-04-2012 at 02:30 PM. |

It might be equally valid to wonder if Weber will be as productive w/o Suter covering the flank whenever Shea joined the rush or drifted deep in the offensive zone. They were great compliments to one another - one of the best blueline pairs in the league.

Good they were too soft. Now Detroit can sign Shane Doan as I have been hoping and praying for since I heard he was a free agent.

If the owners and GM's have the right to trade players, buy them out and demote them to minors to save money then it's hard to justify a player not having the right to choose where he plays when he becomes a UFA. It's not as if he requested a trade or held out on his team to facilitate one. He served his time in nashville and it's his right to move on to what he feels is a better oppurtunity for him.

I am more excited about the other dual in Minny, Kassian and Konopka!

good on them to beat the typical big spenders like the Flyers, Rangers who anually piss away money on lesser players (example Bryz, Gaborik). this will make the Wild an instant contender and catapult them into the limelight. |

I cant imagine him under any scenario signing with the REd wings. |

You're happy the team didnt give a solid superstar like Parise 98 million but gave Chokeulchuck 120 million? who's more valueble? give me a break. Parise is from Minnesota so how is he just "chasing the money?" and how do you know so much about "butt buddies"? what circles are you running in. Your homerism is ridiculous. |

I am going to have to argue against your Gaborik claim. If he was not made of glass, he would easily be a top 5 forward in the league, if not the best player. He has loads of talent and is one of the best skaters currently playing. Fully agree with Bryz though.
