Mike Weaver Joins Florida for Two Years
SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms with D Mike Weaver on a two-year contract.
“Mike is a hard working, high character defenseman who averaged nearly 17 minutes of ice time per game last season,” said Tallon. “He is a good penalty killer who adds further depth to our blue line.” Weaver, 32, has played in 339 National Hockey League career games with St. Louis (2008-10), Vancouver (2007-08), Los Angeles (2005-07) and Atlanta (2001-04) registering 42 points (4-38-42) and 134 PIM. He appeared in 77 games with St. Louis last season recording 10 points (1-9-10) and 29 PIM. The Bramalea, Ontario native played four years of college hockey at Michigan State University and won a Calder Cup championship with the Chicago Wolves (AHL) in 2002.

Hard worker too - Weaver is the type of player who just starts to grow on you as the season progresses - and for a smaller guy, he can throw down once in a while too. I still remember the job he did against Curtis Glencross during the Oilers/Canucks brawl a few years back - really surprised me there and made for a fun fight to watch. Decent depth signing for the Panthers.
