Mike Brown Gets Three Game Suspension

TORONTO – Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mike Brown has been suspended for three games and will forfeit $8,669.34 in salary for delivering a lateral hit to the head of Phoenix Coyotes player Ed Jovanovski in NHL game #651 last night, the National Hockey League announced today.

Brown’s fine is based on his average annual salary and is calculated under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 19:03 of the second period. No penalty was assessed on the play.

Brown will miss games Saturday’s game against Calgary, Jan. 19 at the New York Rangers and Jan. 20 against Anaheim. He will be eligible to return Jan. 22 against Washington.

So they missed the kick in the head by Korpikoski or what about Belanger swinging the stick at Beauchemin's head?

Brown hit Jovanovski, that's his job. Don't like it? Don't extend yourself reaching for the puck, leaving yourself in a vulnerable position when Mike Brown is on the ice. He's going to hit you and he's probably going to hit you hard.

Isn't Jovo like half a foot taller than Brown? So obviously he had to have had his head down, so it's his own fault. And yea, Korpikoski's kick is not being reviewed apparently. He could've easily stabbed MacArthur in the temple with his skate if his knee didn't hit first, but according to the NHL, that's ok.

Cool, I was just showing this to other members of the forum since two members commented about it already in this thread. I wasn't showing it to you, I would have quoted you.

It looked more like whiplash from Brown hitting him and then bouncing off Boyce.

That's it. Keep your ****ing skates on the ice, intentional or not. You can't throw your feet up like that to defend yourself it has a blade on it. He barely missed his throat, a play like that can kill someone.

I read the other thread about this play aswell. MacArthur got drilled by Yandle the shift before and Fiddler started giving it to Grabovski at the end of this shift. To make it worse Korpikoski comes in and throws him in a headlock, needless to say he'd had enough. If you don't want to get involved... keep your hands to yourself. If you don't want people to rough up your non-fighters, leave that team's non-fighters alone.

I agree with that but there is not a way to punish Korpikoski in this incident. Are we going to fine/suspend him on 'having his skates up'? That's why he doesn't have a hearing, it was accidental.

As for Brown's hit, I don't think he should be suspended either. Leafs fans nailed this one, Jovo was reaching for the puck as Brown was eliminating the man from the puck.

It would definately be reaching trying to fine/suspend Korpikoski. At the same time there reaching trying to fine/suspend Brown. My argument was more why one and not the other? Neither play had any intent to injure and Brown's hit was a clean hit.

I don't think Brown should be suspended but I think it's pretty clear why he will be suspended. Like it or not the league is determined to get rid of headshots, so when a 3rd/4th liner like Brown hits somebodies head the league is going to use it to send a message even if it wasn't a blatant attempt to injure.

Bull**** suspension. I hope Burke and Wilson both stick up for Brown in the media.

Damn, so he's not available for the game vs Calgary tomorrow, unless the Leafs appeal it, which they should.
