Max Pacioretty Suspended Three Games for Hit on Kris Letang

NEW YORK - Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty has been suspended, without pay, for three games for delivering an illegal hit to the head of Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang during NHL Game #331 Saturday night in Montreal, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Pacioretty will forfeit $26,351.34. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 16:46 of the third period. Letang suffered a broken nose as a result of the hit. No penalty was assessed on the play.

Pacioretty will miss games Nov. 30 at Anaheim, Dec. 1 at San Jose and Dec. 3 at Los Angeles. He will be eligible to return Dec. 6 vs. Columbus.

Should have been zero games, but that's the new NHL for you.

I'd say it's consistent, if nothing else. It's the one plus Brendan Shanahan has going for him.

It's selective consistency by the NHL. Too bad for Pacioretty he wasn't wearing a Bruins' jersey when he hit Letang. He would've had nothing. But what do you want, he doesn't wear the good jersey.

I think one game would have been enough, but as stated above, atleast Shanahan is consistent

I think that Chara gives Buttman a peek every now and then.

Let the Habs fans crying begin!

As a B's fan I didnt think it was that bad, but it is good to see Shannys not letting players slide with hits to the head and he is being consistent. Given the context of this hit I think it could have went either way.

And before it is said, its not the same hit as Lucic on Miller or Chara on Pac. Pac lined Latang up and came in contact with the head, intentional or unintentional.

It was a bad hit. If that was a hit on Avery...I would say the same thing.

Nah man, if you are talking consistency that **** is thrown out of the window when it involves the Habs. Have we already forgotten about the hit Malone levelled Campoli with, who is still out because of it? The same thing, blatant hit to the head. No games for Malone, 3 for Pac.
