Maybe he should've looked a little harder for a fight when the Sens were in Boston?

Talked to a freind of Carkner's yesterday and he said that in warm ups that he and Thornton had an agreement to go when they were on the ice together for the first time. Carkner said that he never got the chance and Niel beat him to it. Said that Ottawa never put him out with Thornton on the ice. Carkner got 4 shifts. Not much of a chance with only 4 shifts. Pretty sh*tty of Ottawa to do that to a guy. I really respect Thornton for doing what he would have done for Carkner by giving him a fight.

Yeah it's a respectful move on Thorntons part...but it leads me to this thing that fights should really be based more on setting a tone or emotions conjured up from the intensity of a game. This agreeing to give a fight thing seems kinda like "yea alright, we may as well, eh".

I'm just wondering if Carkner would have even needed to ask Thornton, or just sometime during the game done something to grab Shawn's attention. |

Ugh, that sucks. Now Ottawa is left with just Neil again...
They need another legit heavy like Carkner to help him out... why don't they realize that? It just makes me mad when they send him back down after one game. I got excited when they called him up, but unfortunately it was only for one game... so what was the point?

Why not? He's a legit heavyweight, and was in the Top 10 in the AHL I believe, so he's a pretty good fighter. He's done well against a lot of good heavyweights. You're not the only person I know on this site that doesn't think Carkner's the answer, and I just don't get that. He's definitely good enough to serve as a team's heavyweight, IMO. So I'm just curious as to what your reasoning is. Neil and Carkner would be a pretty darn good 1-2 punch... and would be better than what most teams have.

Now when he's called up he should be looking for every oppertunity to drop em and show that he can fill the HW role for the Sens, and take some pressure off Neil who was flourishing in his role the last few years, scoring points, throwing hits and wrecking LHWs. I'm glad to hear Carkner challenged Thornton, because that means he's willing, and I'd bet would be a majority of the time should he get the chance in Ottawa.
