Matt Carkner Out Indefinately

TORONTO SUN

Quote:
OTTAWA - Senators defenceman Matt Carkner had knee surgery Monday morning and will be out an "indefinite" period of time, the team has announced.

That means both rookies David Rundblad and Jared Cowen will start the season with Ottawa.

"He had reoccurence of the knee (injury) that was a problem for him going into the latter part of last year," GM Bryan Murray said of Carkner, one of the NHL's toughest players.

"He did probably do a little too much off ice, and has been affected by it."

Asked if "indefinite" meant a month, Murray shrugged.

"It appears at least that," he said. "I'm not going to predict a definite time, by any means, but I think when you go under the knife, especially the knee, you probably suspect it will be a fair amount of time."
I guess it's Chris Neil or Zenon Konopka who get Colton Orr in his return fight this saturday.

He was already passed by in the depth chart, he was going to get 10-15 games max if healthy.

They have Neil and Konopka so I don't think we will see Lessard anytime soon.

Carkner skating again, but still not sure when he'll be back.

Dont realy see the loss of Carkner that big of a deal. Neil can take on pretty much all heavies and Z can fair well with the rest..

I just plain like Carker Hope he's back soon, and stays healthy.

Sens without Carkner == pretty tough
Sens with Carkner == REALLY tough

For a heavy he plays a lot of minutes and tolerates zero BS. And he's a legit #6 defenceman.

There is one enforcer that Neil definitely can't handle and that's Colton Orr and that's Ottawa's biggest rivalry.

Wrong, Neil does fine against him and doesnt get KO'ed like Carkner. Carkner has one big win over Orr and a bunch of losses. Carkner is considered 1-2 on most lists and 1-3 on everylist last year in top 10.

The reason behind Chris Neil maybe not going with guys like Orr as much is that Neil has been often labeled a spot picker by most. Hes a tough guy and skates and scores pretty well but he spot picks with guys like Orr, only fights them if Orr is going to jump him.

meh, Niel has fought better and tougher fighters who've played for the Leafs and in fact, wore that very same jersey number 28 before...

Maybe not Ottawa but it's a big loss for fight fans, there aren't many Dmen that fight as much as him anymore.
